During this trip and thru today all posts and images have come from my phone. Now I hope to label images and have 19 new ones to add from our camera. We loved this trip and while the RV was huge we had fun but will rent and ultimately buy a much smaller one...maybe.
Here we go...
Sitting at Anchorage aeroporto and thought I would kick this TR off. We may be out of connectivity so we want to wish our Fathers a wonderful Sunday. The fotos should be sequential so the newest are on the top. If knot, there will be separate TRs.
Here we go for the next 12 days.
As we arrived here's a couple shots from the flight.
Day 1 stats: 210 miles, camped out overlooking a huge valley surrounded by mountains, today we aim for Tok.
The Glen Hwy got us from Wasilla partway to Tok, here's some of the views and where we stayed at a pull out for the first night.
Day 2 Tok 202 miles, hardly anyone on the road, see foto, camp set up by 1pm.The drive was beautiful, wild flowers lined the sides of the road like some gazillion $$ beautification project no man could dream. Occasionally I "played" with the foto, like this one
and our happy little campsite in Tok
Day 3 a long and beautiful drive, were we retired today would have taken three days...so we're coming back! 380+ miles now just outside of Whitehorse heading towards Dawson City tomorrow. Two fotos one me driving another of the road ahead. Another incredible drive no one else on the roads and surrounded by pure natural beauty.
Day ? Just getting back to being connected. Right out of Whitehorse is a sign saying you are no longer able to call 911 and finally earlier today we arrived back halfway to civilization. We camped off the "Top of the World highway" incredibly beautiful and stayed up till sundown then sunrise a couple minutes later around 130am. From Dawson thru today the fotos are on the camera. I'll add a couple of today's drive and Jules and me by the Yukon river.
This is where we lost touch for a few days so let me fill you in.... On the way from Whitehorse to Dawson we had to fill up with petro. with the most expensive fill up of my life...that's per liter! Pulling into Dawson... Now the Yukon river flows thru here and it was the capital of the Yukon because that's where all the action was chasing after gold. See the stones past the sign into Dawson? Take a look at the Google Earth view. There is no way to show you how many tons of stone have been dredged; it goes for miles as you enter the town. All those lines are piles of dredged stone, its incredible. A poem downtown.... These two about town by the Yukon... Hana Ho! We had to cross the Yukon by ferry in order to get to the "Top of World Highway" Here's our view as we sailed... Along the TOTW hwy, we camped and had beautiful views. The road was great and easy to drive all the way until we arrived back in the States. The US side until the town of Chicken was the worse section of driving for the entire trip, you would literally stop and crawl past on coming traffic. It was great to see a motorcycle approaching and not another 36 ft beomoth or bus! All dirt with "soft shoulders", I was thrilled when arrived in Chicken. Why is the town called Chicken? Cuz the founders could not agree how you spell "Ptarmigan" The town is off the grid, all 3 businesses have their own generators. Here you can still pan for gold...and they really do find some. $15 for 4 hours of panning.
Ok the Foto sequence has malfunctioned good thing it's only for 4 more days.(Edit: sequence has been restored) Today we parked for 2 nights by a stream about 200 miles NE of Anchorage. Wildlife spotting count is 4 Moose, 2 grizzly bear, 1 black near and a Porcupine.
These two nights were at Tolsona where we had a sweet spot by the river and so we stayed in a van down by the river. We ate good food... and the mornings were freezing! We had to dress up for breakfast.
Sunday we had a short drive to an RV park about 120 miles north of Anchorage where we will say goodbye to this life on the road and assume the role of two ostensibly ordinary folk who quietly have heard the calling and will return to the open trails and wandering life once again. It's sad to see this trip ending but I'm sure once I see Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea peeking through the clouds I'll be ready to paddle out on the beautiful Pacific, adding 1 foto today of the glacier and mountains nearby.
Couple shots from the stop... we hiked to see bear, sheep and a glacier...we saw a glacier.
Made it back to Anchorage, dropped off the rig and we'll relax at the Sheraton before heading home tomorrow, added 1 image of our rig in this mornings fog overlooking the Matanuska valley.(above)
Thanks for dropping by and we'l see you on the trails Amigo!
