Just did some fun rides on Lanai and Maui

It was time to visit the In-Laws and I will say I am the most loved Son-in-Law around. While on Lanai, I took off to Kaunalu for a few days Biking and camping while I looked for peace, and a place to climb.

Here’s the trail down, and I will camp to the right of the point marker.

Then I peddled over to Manele Bay for a relaxing night camping before I came back to Oh-Wahoo.

Then I had some more time off and Julie agreed to let me bike more.

It has been about 9 years since I last biked the Munro trail up and over. Lately I have been taking that cutoff around 1800ft that goes to Keomoku, because that downhill section is a riot. Not on this day though, today it was Munro.

First I saw this beautiful Valley…

Slowly Uphill surrounded by vegetation…

Then I spy next weeks objective; Haleakala

Looking South I see some trails I have never been on yet right below me, so I tacked on extra hour to the ride and cruised those trails you can see in the bottom of the foto.

After a day of chilling with my dear wife, I headed out to see if there was some kind of decent into that valley. There looks to be a couple spots where you could scramble down and bushwack but not me on my SJ. Here’s me relaxing to a freshly picked Banana. See I was heading out the garage and my Mom-in-Law comes from the back yard with huge bunch so she threw two into my pack.

Now its time to go to Maui.

Night one me and SJ stay at Olowala

Day 2 off to Haleakala where I wanna ride Skyline and end up at the Poli Poli campsite

The pedals started turned at sunrise, he looking at the work ahead. That little bump is 10,000 feet higher than me right now.

Once on top Its off to the Skyline, here’s looking back on an upper section. Sometimes the rocks get deep but for the most part the SJ and puma like reflexes keep the rubber side down.

Looking towards the Big Isle, I can see Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, Hawaii’s highest points just below 14,000, but you knew that.

LoaandKea

Down the trail a bit I pose to show my cruising rig. The SJ, me with the pit on the handlebars, food, water, stove, other set of clothes, and book go in the camelback peakbagger which is soon to be retired. I love the Skyline trail, it is soooo Much FUN!

Poli Camping is pretty cool, the clouds come and go, here is the look as the clouds approach through the trees…

A few minutes later, the clouds are here

Next day I cruise around the area, here is the legal end of the road. I respect the organizations right to keep me off, but could care less for their fence that scars miles of countryside.

KeepOut

Then I head over to Mamane trail. Only from hours of watching discovery channel have I learned the art of self portrait action shot.

Mamane

That trails is a riot! When I got back to the campsite, these 4 guys from west Maui, just finished cooking breakfast and as I set my pack down one of them brought this breakfast over…Sweet! Thanks guys!

Breakfast

Next day is my last and I am up early, here is looking down Poli,Poli you can see the sun hasn’t quite made it over Haleakala, I want to come back here sometime to learn how to paraglide.

DownPoli

I cruise down the hill, couple of flats! My rim tape slipped and needed to be replaced, then I was off to Lahaina, caught the 12:30 ferry back to Lanai, then caught the 3:30 Island Air flight back home and at 4:10 my lovely wife picked me up and we went home, wow that bed is comfortable!

See you on the trail Amigo’s!
